Ed Hartwell and Keshia Knight Pulliam head to court over divorce

There are a number of reasons why a person might want to get a divorce, but violence or abuse is one that is particularly concerning. If you've become a victim of physical or emotional abuse, you may want to get the court's protection or seek a restraining order with the help of your attorney.

When your case goes to court, you may find that your divorce could take longer than usual because of the violence issues. Since you can't necessarily work out your asset division and other factors of your divorce together, you and your spouse may have to wait for the court to do so at trial.

In the news, this divorce highlights that exact situation. The divorce between Ed Hartwell and Keshia Knight Pulliam has been publicized because of her claims that he wanted to hurt her unborn child and pregnancy. He claims he had no such intentions.

In the Superior Court of Fulton County, Georgia, Hartwell denied the claim that he had engaged in unusual conduct intended to make her miscarry. He has asked for a paternity test, but he would like to wait until the child is born to reduce the risk of complications.

Pulliam, on the other hand, still claims that Hartwell is emotionally and mentally abusive; she believes he has engaged in cruel treatment. She claims she had to be cautious in her own home because of his uncontrolled anger and rages. In response to this, Hartwell claimed the only emotional abuse has been from his wife.

Cases like this one can be difficult to get through, but with the right help, you can move forward with your divorce while protecting yourself from an abusive partner.
