Popular 1970s Pop Duo File for Divorce

Georgia residents with an interest in celebrity divorces may be surprised to hear that the 38-year marriage of the 70s pop duo Captain and Tennille is over. Cathryn Antoinette Tennille filed for divorce from Daryl Dragon, saying the marriage is irretrievably broken. The petition asks that their shared property, debt and other obligations be equally divided between both parties. It also states that neither party is in need of alimony.

The couple's website already lists them as ex-wife and ex-husband and went on to say that while their marriage appeared to be solid, people change over time and hidden feelings can be uncovered. The pair married in 1975, which is the same year that their hit single "Love Will Keep Us Together" won a Grammy. The duo went on to have 14 other songs on the charts and briefly hosted a variety show.

Dragon and Tennille retired to Prescott, Arizona, in 2008. Tennille remained active as she trained Australian shepherds, performed in local clubs and even did a voice over for a tourism video promoting the Prescott area. Dragon, on the other hand, is thought to be in poor health due to a neurological condition. Tennille blogged in 2011 that his illness made it nearly impossible for him to play the keyboards, and he was embarrassed to be out in public.

When a long-term marriage comes to an end, dividing property can be complicated even if the divorce is amicable. An attorney may be helpful in sorting out an equitable plan that gives both parties their share of the marital property.
