Astronaut calls it quits with third wife

Buzz Aldrin was successful in his mission to the moon. However, it appears he has been less successful at marriage. Aldrin officially split from his third wife late last month.

The couple had been married for 23 years. Aldrin filed for divorce in June 2011.

According to reports, Aldrin's former wife will receive close to $10,000 each month along with 30 percent of his yearly income. In addition, she is reportedly taking $237,500 from a bank account. She is also set to collect half of the profits he earns from his businesses.

As Gwinnett County residents know, going through a divorce can be challenging, especially after couples have been married for a long time. Some divorces can be rather easy to settle. However, couples who are at odds may encounter more difficulties.

Buzz Aldrin and his third wife did not have any children. While they did not have to settle child custody or child support matters, it appears they had many other issues to sort through.

One of those issues was alimony. Alimony is designed to alleviate any financial inequalities as a result of a divorce. For instance, when one parent leaves behind a career to take care of children, alimony may be necessary to prevent major financial problems. There are no formulas designed to determine alimony. A variety of factors are considered when determining whether or not a spouse will receive financial support.

There are often complex issues that must be sorted through when a couple decides to part ways. Often, working with an experienced family law attorney is best.
